“I am thankful for the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends.”

The Coffee: Yesterday was the Superbowl, which means I’ve had my blog for 1 year! Woot! While my posts have most certainly become less intelligent, thanks for sticking with me through it all.

And since I’d rather talk about anything besides the Superbowl (big woof), I will commence with something totally unrelated.

Since I slipped on my first ballet shoes at the age of 3, there was certainly no question of my love for dancing, and nearly 20 years later, I am still drawn to anything dance – ballet, hiphop, lyrical, modern, jazz, tap – you name it, and I want to do it. Recently, I did a $1 workshop with Dance Works Boston, a dance company for girls outside of the early college years looking for an opportunity to continue their passion for movement, exercise and expression through music. Okay, while this video is slightly embarrassing, I did enjoy myself! See if you can spot me 😉

The Cream and Sugar: New year’s cheers-ing, old friend reminiscing, gimlet drinking, winter pond strolling, birchbox receiving, snowy heal trekking, football partying, gnocchi mac & cheese making, mechanical bull riding, $1 workshop dancing, birthday partying and haus music hopping – phew, that’s all you missed from my lack of posts. Here are two highlights!

My mom riding a mechanical bull for her 53rd Birthday. Yes, Yes this real. This is going down in the memory books.

The gnocchi mac & cheese I made for my holiday dinner with my roomie! I can’t describe how good this is. Drop all things and make this as soon as possible. You won’t regret it!

How PR is like Mean Girls

The Coffee: I am slightly embarrased to compare my job to Mean Girls, but come on, you can’t deny it.

That’s So Fetch: Keeping up with PR news is similar to keeping up with the latest catch phrases. One minute you’re in and the next you accidently tweeted about yesterday’s news that no one cares about. It is important to take every bit of information with a grain of salt, but still act quickly. Seasoned professionals realize what information to act upon and what to shove into the “fetch” category.

On Wednesday’s we wear pink: Often is it diffcult for agencies to fit in with a client with out understanding thier habits first. This also applies for clients picking the right agency. I believe that agencies should always put on a different pair of shoes, so to speak, for each client because they typically demand separate needs.

Full of Secrets: What PR professional doesn’t have a secret contact at so and so newspaper, a new release only for frenemies, or the latest issue of that trendy magazine before you do. Just don’t let it go to your head. Remember to keep friendly ties with as many people as possible; nobody likes a media snob.

There’s a 30% chance it is already raining: Okay try not to predict the weather like Karen, or the news for that matter. Karen is an example of how not to act upon trends. You need to be ahead of the game no matter what.

The Cream and Sugar: Since the age of three, I have been on my toes dancing. I used to pretend I was a Rockette in my tile kitchen only scratching the floor with my tap shoes. It takes a dancer to really appreciate dance art, and I love this photography by Jordan Matter entitled, New Dancers Among Us.
