As my mother always says “Old Friends Are the Best Friends”

The Coffee: Do you remember when I posted about Pinterest in October? Well apparently, my secret divulging is now all the range.

I begin to wonder if it is just a fad. Studies conclude that the usage has somewhat plateaued. I am on the radar because it is part of my job to find ways to measure Pinterest. Bottom line; it will not stick unless brands can make numbers/graphs/metrics out of their efforts. Word to the wise, if you want to make a cool new networking or sharing tool, find a way to produce results!

You don’t have to tell me twice that it is addictive, here is a pretty infographic that proves why.

The Cream and Sugar: In reference to the title of this post, I visited New York City a few weeks ago to catch up with some old friends. While I love Boston, New York City certainly has my eye. Since I live by the motto “You only Live Once”, I foresee it in my near future.

I can never complain about catching up with old friends, you can talk about the past, present and future as if they already know what you are going to say. Not to mention, my friends have a love of food equal to my own so there was no lack of yummy brunch(s), fresh dumplings and artisan cheeses.

Here are a few tidbits:

Reminiscing and strolling down second ave.

Dancing and being classy at The Jane Hotel

Egg white and Goat Cheese omelet at a famous NYC brunch spot

Gallivanting around Chelsea Market. One of the most unusual places I’ve been to in a while, converted from an old warehouse, it contains endless cute food shops! This is where we got our fancy cheese 🙂

Arriving home at 7:30 a.m. after an evening of champagne, dancing at Marquee , Korean cousine, and karaoke.

And finally, strolling on 5th avenue after purchasing this Kate Spade purse!

Cheers!

“I am thankful for the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends.”

The Coffee: Yesterday was the Superbowl, which means I’ve had my blog for 1 year! Woot! While my posts have most certainly become less intelligent, thanks for sticking with me through it all.

And since I’d rather talk about anything besides the Superbowl (big woof), I will commence with something totally unrelated.

Since I slipped on my first ballet shoes at the age of 3, there was certainly no question of my love for dancing, and nearly 20 years later, I am still drawn to anything dance – ballet, hiphop, lyrical, modern, jazz, tap – you name it, and I want to do it. Recently, I did a $1 workshop with Dance Works Boston, a dance company for girls outside of the early college years looking for an opportunity to continue their passion for movement, exercise and expression through music. Okay, while this video is slightly embarrassing, I did enjoy myself! See if you can spot me 😉

The Cream and Sugar: New year’s cheers-ing, old friend reminiscing, gimlet drinking, winter pond strolling, birchbox receiving, snowy heal trekking, football partying, gnocchi mac & cheese making, mechanical bull riding, $1 workshop dancing, birthday partying and haus music hopping – phew, that’s all you missed from my lack of posts. Here are two highlights!

My mom riding a mechanical bull for her 53rd Birthday. Yes, Yes this real. This is going down in the memory books.

The gnocchi mac & cheese I made for my holiday dinner with my roomie! I can’t describe how good this is. Drop all things and make this as soon as possible. You won’t regret it!

Cheers!

“Old friend, why are you so shy? Ain’t like you to hold back or hide from the light”

Whoa. It looks like I’ve been drinking far too much Bailey’s and not enough coffee in the new year! Be back soon with witty random posts of my 20-something life.

“I’ve got nothin left to lose, but I’m no pair of dancing shoes”

The Coffee: Happy Holidays; if you are not in the spirit yet, this video will surely help 😉

The Cream and Sugar: 5-4-3-2-1 Happy New Year! New Year’s Eve is one of those holidays that either goes really well or really well but slightly embarrassing.  I always want to have most amazing-sparkly-time, and I get so nervous planning. I’d say the last few were pretty successfully unforgettable, specially because I kissed my girlfriends at midnight instead of any undeserving guy around me. This year I do have a derserving guy though 🙂

My Bests Laura & Luke ringing in 2011 in Boston below. It involved a bottle of blueberry vodka, a party bus, a club with three floors themed heaven/earth/hell, and we stayed in Hell the whole night. I don’t know where I got that headband.

2010 – my favorite year, a house party at Jeff’s apt. in Boston. 6 Bottles of champagne (one casualty), lots of laughs, a lost Sperry, a 5 way kiss between my girlfriends, and grenadine. I got that sparkly skirt at Forever21!

 a trend forms – 2010 – Bests – Sam – Laura – Katrina!

2009 Bests (classy and ew I was skinny)! I think 25 of us slept in one room.

2008 Bests (ugh these outfits)!

Cheers!

Orange is young, full of daring but very unsteady for the first go ’round

The Coffee: The Holidays are here. There is no denying it! Get out your cocktail attire because the parties are upon us. With that said, the topic of late has been what is and isn’t appropriate for a work holiday party. No, not the party your local coffee shop throws, but the budget breaking corporate who-ha of nights where you are more worried about the length of your hem then the spiked egg-nog. Here are some dos and don’ts that will get you through:

  1. Do dress the Attire – If you think it is inappropriate, it probably is. Go with your gut. If you have to ask someone else what they think, then you probably know the answer. Think classy, sophisticated, conservative. I absolutely adore this little number from j.crew. Wish it was even close to my budget, woof.
  2. Don’t over Drink – Open Bar = deadly. Think of this way, if you don’t want to do anything embarrassing, then keep your cocktail drinking to a manageable amount. And for goodness sake, eat something!
  3. Do network – Keep your drink in your left hand ready to meet new people, expand your network and gain an understanding of other’s interests
  4. Don’t gossip – Holiday parties are a great time to mingle with those outside your circle, but it doesn’t mean you should spill your deadliest thoughts about your coworker. Be careful and reserved about how you speak about others, that person will have more respect for you in the end
  5. Do thank – The party planners went through a lot of work for your enjoyment!
  6. Don’t talk business – Avoid work topics all night, its boring. the end.
  7. Do HAVE FUN! – I mean who can’t have fun at a free party?

The Cream and Sugar: Remember the recipe I posted for pumpkin pie? Well I made it this year for Thanksgiving again and it was a huge hit! This year, I covered the crust edges in thin strips of foil so they wouldn’t burn. A little secret? I added honey roasted pecans instead of regular ones for a little flair!

I love flowers, and apparently, my boyfriend knows I do too 🙂

Cheers!

“And all the kids they dance, all the kids all night. Until Monday morning feels another life” Coldplay

The Coffee: Happy Movember! Is your boyfriend, husband, brother, uncle, father participating in Men’s Health awareness month? The men in my office are, can’t wait to see the pro growers (and not so pro) waltzing around trying to not look like pedifile bros. Yes, the Mo Bros are about and I fully support. Let’s face it; females get plenty of chance to support our health through nonsense Facebook posts (the what color underwear are you wearing trend etc).

The Cream and Sugar: The ironic part about this post is not my recent adaptation of cooking crazy good meals, it was what I was for Halloween in relation (you’ll see in a moment). Also, apologies for the shitty great crackberry photos.

Pumpkin Chocolate chip cookies, I have no idea what recipe I used, I used like eight different ones. Here is what I learned: pumpkin from a can makes them cakey so you must add more sugar than flour or else they feel like muffins. Or you can cheat by mix Betty Crocker’s Pumpkin Spice mix with choco chips ;).

I made this next meal mostly to use these burgers sitting in my freezer, but I ended up pretty impressed. (Sorry I started to eat it before taking the photo).

Pan fried bbq Sirloin burgers with carmelized onion smothered in swiss cheese with oven-roasted carrots /asparagus /peppers /onions /sweet potatoes seasoned with rosemary, basil and EVOO. Cook the onions separately in a pan til soft, cook burger to desired temp. Veggies take about 30 mins in oven at 350.

I love couscous. I could eat a whole box in one sitting. This next meal is obviously overwhelmed by the heavenly substance.

Oven-roasted Atlantic Salmon with same above type veggies and parmesan couscous. Couscous takes about 5 mins, which is super convenient when you are focusing on the temperature of salmon. Veggies take about 30 mins in the oven at 350.

AND thus, here is what I was for Halloween: The three little pigs and my bf as the big bad wolf. Hence #fatty status

Cheers!

“A hobby a day keeps the doldrums* away.”

*doldrum: a state of inactivity or stagnation, as in business or art

The Coffee: Sometimes when you feel as though you are in a rut, anything spontaneous and out of character can add some spice to your life. Visit an out-of-state friend for the weekend, go shopping in a different part of the city, grab dinner with a long-lost bud, or randomly jump on a bus to NY with a free hotel room in site (that last one is my plan for this weekend!). All randomness aside, how can I turn down a luxury suite in Times Square for a girls weekend? How do you keep your life spontaneous?

The Cream and Sugar: I suck at blogging. Correction. I use Pinterest too much which inhibits me from blogging. Have you discovered your pinning abilities yet? I’ve been using it a lot for DYI craft and decoration ideas for my sad blank bedroom walls. I am recently obsessed with big funky mirrors and I also resurfaced my oil paints; sunflowers are on my to-do list.

Cheers,
