Coffee: Let Go to Get Happy Cream&Sugar: Inspiring Bloggers

The Coffee: I read this inspiring article the other day. Instead of recommending what to add to your life to be happy, it suggested items to give up!

  1. Giving up the need to always be right
  2. Give up your need for control
  3. Give up on blame
  4. Give up on your self-defeating self-talk
  5. Give up your limiting beliefs
  6. Give up complaining
  7. Give up the luxury of criticism
  8. Give up your need to impress others
  9. Give up your resistance to change
  10. Give up labels
  11. Give up your excuses
  12. Give up on the past
  13. Give up attachment
  14. Give up your fears
  15. Give up living your life to other people’s expectations
Okay, you can’t do this all at once. Here is a baby step: When you are about to complain about something little, think about it for 10 more seconds. If it still seems worth complaining about after that, I’d be surprised. Don’t forget what makes you, you.
The Cream and Sugar: Speaking of inspiring things, I mostly certainly would never be inspired to blog unless I read about these pretty bloggers. The following sparkly ladies write about anything under the sun and I always look forward to their next post! Don’t fear (see above) writing about what you love, others might love it too.

JordanOh Happy Day – “featuring DIY party projects, party planning ideas, interior design, weddings, letterpress and invitations, design, photography, an occasional kid product and anything “pretty”.”

JoannaCup of Joe – Joanna writes about everything, but what is really inspiring is her ability to open up to her readers,  share intiment stories of her life, and most importantly, blog about her adorable baby Toby.

EmilyCupcakes and Cashmere – Emily is simply fabulous and so is her life.

ErinApartment34 – “celebrates curating a styled life featuring all things fabulous in fashion, decor, weddings, interiors, food, photography and whatever else happens to capture my eye.” Erin always posts the more intriguing internet tidbits!

MollySmart Pretty & Awkward – Molly inspired my blog layout, since I can never coherently post about one thing, I separated it into two.

AareanThe Color Issue – As her tag lines indicate, everything she posts make my eyes sing!

CarolynSparkle, Glitter & Shine – A friend near and dear to me, Carolyn puts sparkle into every step of her day.

BreeBaked Bree – Bree’s food and recipes simply look amazing. the end.

Irish cupcakes with Bailey’s. Get at me.

Coffee: Little Ways to Save on Groceries \ Cream&Sugar: My Skin Secret

The Coffee: Did I tell you I am going to Europe in June? It can only mean one thing; save, save, save!

In my lifestyle at least, the largest drainage of my wallet occurs from grocery shopping; here are some ways you can keep that bill locked under a budget:

  • Create a strategy or list before you go- you’ll avoid impulse buys or  doubling back to stuff you forgot in past isles
  • Get the cold items last – the longer they stay out of the cold of the store the less time they’ll last in your possession
  • Store things properly in the fridge – plastic containers that are meant to keep items fresh will keep you from going back to the store frequently due to rotten items
  • Prepare lunches for the whole week on Sunday night so you can avoid expensive restaurants near the office – Soups are great, but so is lasagna, a giant salad, or a rice dish.

The Cream & Sugar: Do you have a skin remedy you swear by? My secret? It’s not ProActive folks (though I was a user in my teen years). It’s Dr. Hauschka; say that 10 times fast.

My Dutch roommate introduced me to the product line in college, and I was hooked. It weighs heavily on a daily routine of washing, toning and moisturizing. While a lot of products suggest a night cream, the Dr. says skip it! No scrubbing, no harsh chemicals, no dyeing your pillow sheets.

They have lines specializing in oily, dry, sensitive or any combination of skin types. Yes, it is a bit expensive than your over-the-counter CVS brand wash, but I truly believe my skin has thanked me and will keep thanking me when I’m 60. You can find products at your local WholeFoods and even some spas carry the line.

P.S. I changed my titles. I decided song lyrics rarely make sense no matter how much I like them 😉

Never work before breakfast; if you have to work before breakfast, eat your breakfast first.

The Coffee: According to a recent post on Mashable, 95% of recruiters successfully hired candidates found through LinkedIn. A recent trend I’ve heard is hiring people without even meeting them in person. While social media can greatly help your career, it can also be a potential downfall.

You can be whoever you want to be on social media, so when it comes down to it, a good old fashioned in-person interview is how I would want to hire. Yes, social media, resumes, Twitter and Facebook can weed out the wackos, but in the end, you have to be able to work them. If you are looking for a job, make sure your social media precense is enough to get you that interview!

The Cream and Sugar: Although I am estatic to see the warm weather arriving, I was sad to say goodbye to March since it houses one of my favorite holidays. Restaurant Week Boston of-course!! My bf and I made reservations at Terramia Ristorante in the North End for an evening full of wining, dining and 3 courses each for only $33!!

Here is the menu we sampled:

Antipasta: The carpaccio was perfectly thin and not too salty, the zucchini flower was light and fresh
CARPACCIO DI BUE – Paper-thin beef, organic baby greens, lemon olive oil condiment, caper berries, Reggiano cheese
FIORE DI ZUCCA – Stracciatella cheese stuffed zucchini flower, petite arugula salad, honey truffle aioli

Primi: Let’s just say I died and went to heaven with fresh made pappardelle, truffle oil and goat cheese. Goat cheese!!
PAPPARDELLE CON RAGÙ DI CINGHIALE – House made Pappardelle pasta with wild Boar ragu, aromatic vegetables and Parmigianino cheese
RAVIOLI DI FUNGHI – Mushroom ravioli with Madeira veal Demi, crumbled goat cheese and truffle essence

Secondi The salmon was so tasty, and while my bf obviously enjoyed the beef, the puttanesca salad had his taste buds as well.
BISTECCA – Champagne marinated Beef short-rib, braised beet greens, short-rib ravioli, crispy leeks
SALMONE ALLA PUTTANESCA – Pan seared Sockeye salmon, Puttanesca salad, wild rice Florentine

And guess what? If all this Italian fair is too much for you, RestoWeek’s next endevour is Beer and Bacon Week! Yum!

As my mother always says “Old Friends Are the Best Friends”

The Coffee: Do you remember when I posted about Pinterest in October? Well apparently, my secret divulging is now all the range.

I begin to wonder if it is just a fad. Studies conclude that the usage has somewhat plateaued. I am on the radar because it is part of my job to find ways to measure Pinterest. Bottom line; it will not stick unless brands can make numbers/graphs/metrics out of their efforts. Word to the wise, if you want to make a cool new networking or sharing tool, find a way to produce results!

You don’t have to tell me twice that it is addictive, here is a pretty infographic that proves why.

The Cream and Sugar: In reference to the title of this post, I visited New York City a few weeks ago to catch up with some old friends. While I love Boston, New York City certainly has my eye. Since I live by the motto “You only Live Once”, I foresee it in my near future.

I can never complain about catching up with old friends, you can talk about the past, present and future as if they already know what you are going to say. Not to mention, my friends have a love of food equal to my own so there was no lack of yummy brunch(s), fresh dumplings and artisan cheeses.

Here are a few tidbits:

Reminiscing and strolling down second ave.

Dancing and being classy at The Jane Hotel

Egg white and Goat Cheese omelet at a famous NYC brunch spot

Gallivanting around Chelsea Market. One of the most unusual places I’ve been to in a while, converted from an old warehouse, it contains endless cute food shops! This is where we got our fancy cheese 🙂

Arriving home at 7:30 a.m. after an evening of champagne, dancing at Marquee , Korean cousine, and karaoke.

And finally, strolling on 5th avenue after purchasing this Kate Spade purse!
